GUARDIAN HOMES
What is a Guardian?
A lot of families ask this very question! Guardian families are always needed and are important to our program so we can have diversity and be able to offer families a range of sizes and colors. Without Guardian families, we wouldn't be able to have the type of program we do today. We are forever grateful to all of our current Guardians!
A Guardian dog is a puppy that we have selected to remain or join as a part of our breeding program. A Guardian family is just that, the family that raises the puppy that is remaining in our program as their family pet. Guardian families' "adoption" fee is waived when a puppy is placed with them for the program. They maintain average Veterinary care, grooming, and boarding if needed. Females will have an average of 4 litters and for males, there is no set number of breedings that we do. Families that have Guardian males are notified once a girl begins her heat cycle that they will be needed in 7-14 days on average (sometimes sooner or longer), this all depends on the females of course. The agreement term is 5 years for females and 7 years for males. Females will need to stay with us for a longer duration while she is with her puppies. We generally bring them during the last week of pregnancy to get a fresh bath and groom, visit our Vet for a pregnancy appointment and settle in with us to best prepare for her delivery. She will remain with us until she has weaned her puppies which is typically when they are 5-6 weeks old. Once a Guardian dog is retired, they will be spayed/neutered and remain with our and your family for the remainder of their lives.
Anything reproductive is also covered by Woodland Mountain Doodles. All progesterone's, pregnancy-related x-rays, pregnancy-related care, and breedings.
We hope this helps "outline" our program a little more. Please feel free to message me with any other questions. We hope you will consider joining our Guardian Program!
